Teams from Customs and Excise Offices in various regions have again thwarted the smuggling of millions of illegal cigarettes through market operations. This is done by Customs and Excise continuously in the context of monitoring and efforts to secure state revenue from the excise sector. Quoted from Jpnn

Several Customs offices that this time are promoting market operations include Bandung Customs, East Sumatra Regional Customs, Meulaboh Customs, Malili Customs, and Pontianak Customs.

“The things that concern our supervision are cigarettes without being attached to excise stamps, fake excise stamps attached, used excise stamps, excise stamps that are not their right, and excise stamps that are not according to their designation,” said Acting Head of Sub-Directorate of Communications and Information. Customs and Excise Publication, Hatta Wardhana, on Friday (5/3).

The Bandung Customs and Excise, starting from January to the end of February 2021, have prosecuted illegal cigarettes 456 times with potential state losses estimated at IDR 554,010,790.

As for the number of cigarettes that were successfully prosecuted, 1,082,454 cigarettes were packaged under various brands and originated from various regions in Java.

Hatta revealed that one of the actions was carried out by the Bandung Customs and Excise by utilizing the X-Ray car innovation from the head office and the role of cooperative shipping services in the Greater Bandung area in eradicating the circulation of illegal cigarettes, which succeeded in cracking down on 635,866 illegal cigarettes.

Meanwhile, the active market operation by the Regional Office of Customs and Excise of Sumbagtim has succeeded in prosecuting 660,760 illegal cigarettes. (henri / pn)
